Just the term “summer Fridays” makes me think ahhhhhh. Time off after a busy week during the best season of all. Meditate or party, it doesn’t matter what you do with that extra time off at the end of the week. If you don’t know, some larger companies allow employees to leave early or have a half day of work on Fridays for an entire summer. It’s pretty genius and I think all companies should do this.
Summer Fridays is also a brand launched by Mariana Hewitt and Lauren Gores around late 2017 to early 2018. These two co-founders were beauty bloggers for years before they teamed up to create something amazing together.
The new skincare line launched with one product, the Jet Lag Mask. This strategy is almost unheard of in the beauty industry, but they spent a year or more developing and perfecting one mask to ensure that they launched with something amazing rather than a lot of just okay products. The Jet Lag Mask was headlined by WWD as “Skin Care’s New #1 Bestseller” in March 2018 a few months after they launched. Quality over quantity, people.
“Summer Fridays, Jet Lag Mask” are two expressions about time. Summer Fridays is a term that likely resonates with a busy working woman but also anybody who likes to enjoy a long weekend in the sun! “Jet lag” can also resonate with a busy woman who travels a ton and is feeling worn out, or even for a person who doesn’t travel often but knows that tired, dull feeling. I imagine a woman who is at the office (or cafe for all the freelancers out there) who is hustling or in meetings all the time, just looking for a moment.
All of this didn’t occur to me until they just released their new second product (!!!) that is called Overtime Mask. The word overtime haunts me, but I think this goes with my point about how this brand is all about time. If you’re working overtime or have worked excessive overtime in the past then you know it's exhausting.
It’s fitting that the Jet Lag Mask is about hydrating and the Overtime Mask is about exfoliating. Flying notoriously make you super dehydrated and, I don’t know about you, but, working overtime kinda makes me want to shed my skin. Jet lag and working overtime are two things that can definitely do damage to the skin, too. The founders have said that they put a lot of thought and consideration into making these products, but details like this really shine light on that.
This brand is about time and more importantly setting time aside for yourself, which is what skincare is all about. This skincare line is not only for the busy working woman, though. It’s for anybody looking for a moment to themselves. So looking forward to trying these products over the next few months and seeing what they come out with next!
