The Time I Only Used One Product In My Skincare Routine

My first approach to an all-natural skincare routine was to simplify as much as possible. My skin was super irritated and inflamed. My acne was not subsiding no matter what I did.

I picked up Jojoba oil from Trader Joe’s because I learned it is an effective makeup remover, a great moisturizer, and similar to the oil our skin already produces (unlike coconut oil) and is safe to use on acne prone skin.

At the time, I felt like I was using tons of products and it was costing me time and money trying to figure out what worked and what didn’t. I started to see YouTubers use the oil to clean their faces. So I thought, why not bring it back to basics and see if I can use just one product, 100% natural, and see what happens?

I used nothing but Jojoba oil for a month as a cleanser, makeup remover, and moisturizer.

Initial thoughts:
·      It's an awesome makeup remover. Rub the oil all over your face and eyelashes to remove foundation and tough mascara, ring out a face cloth with hot/warm water and wipe off the makeup with the warm cloth. Keep doing this until the white cloth comes back with no residue. ALL YOUR MAKEUP IS OFF. AMAZING. Plus your skin won’t feel stripped! Wow!
·      Wearing under makeup all day is g r e a s y. Seriously. I wouldn’t do this and wear glasses at the same time because they would just slide off constantly. I also wouldn’t recommend this to anybody with bangs. I was feeling pretty good about this anyway especially because my skin is typically dry so it was nice to feel ~moisturized~

After some consideration, my only main concern was that I wasn’t wearing sunscreen every day, which is something I always like to incorporate into my skincare. Other than that, I was hopeful that this oil would cure my acne.

In the midst of the experiment, I went to Fresh at The Grove without wearing makeup (so, so much acne showing) and the Sales Associate immediately wanted to help. I was really there just to browse but was happy to chat about skincare and see what they had to offer. When I shared my newest skincare routine with her, she was shocked I wasn't exfoliating at all. Which now in retrospect, of course, my acne wasn’t going to get better without any exfoliation!!

That’s when I realized maybe one oil as my entire skincare wouldn’t be the best solution, but it was a great start to eventually build my all-natural skincare routine to what it would eventually become.
